31 Days of Inviting Positive Change
Day 8: Bursting Your Bubble
After focusing on all the things that are good in our world, we’ll poke our nose out of our bubble and catch a whiff of what’s happening in our wider circle.
Contributing our attention, time and skills to our local community or a good cause further afield, raises our sense of purpose - we have a chance to make a difference in other people’s lives and together accomplish something for the greater good. We also widen our understanding of others during this process.
So many of us are searching, or at least are wondering about, our purpose in life, something to make this all worthwhile. Now, here’s a spin to this concept; maybe we don’t FIND our purpose, instead we DEVELOP it.
Even if our contribution to a certain cause or community doesn’t set out as, or ever will be, our life’s purpose, being involved with a group of like-minded people makes us experience a sense of belonging and of being of value. These are invaluable aspects of our health and happiness.

Be All Ears
Before we embark on new and exciting projects, I would like to draw your attention to a few common communication tweaks many of us could benefit from, whether that’s while talking with a stranger at a party or with our very best friend we’ve known our whole lives.
The first concept is * Listen to understand * We often listen to insert OUR story or opinion, rather than paying full attention to what the other person is saying. Most of the time we don’t even notice that we’re doing that (because we’re so busy preparing for our turn!). |
Today, when someone is telling you a story or is having a good old rant, remember to be all ears. Whether you like what they are saying or not. Let them talk and pay them your full attention, that includes not checking your phone.
Being heard is such an important point of validation for all of us. We all want to be heard. But these days it seems that everybody’s talking and nobody’s listening. Let the person opposite you know that they’re being heard.
*After the conversation*, notice what did that feel like? (Ah, there are our senses again! :D )
Join me tomorrow for Day 9 of our 31 Days of Inviting Positive Change :)
